Gulfport, Miss - Forty-nine (49) individuals are facing drug charges in four (4) separate federal indictments unsealed on Wednesday, August 1, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis, Jackson, Miss – Fred Ronald Adams of Meridian, Mississippi, pled guilty in U.S. District Court today to possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis and FBI Special Agent in Charge Daniel McMullen announced.

Adams admitted to possession of pornographic images that depicted minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. He agreed to forfeit to the government his computer and other electronic devices used to facilitate the illegal activity. Adams will be sentenced on October 11, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

This case demonstrates the mission of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice nationwide initiative launched in May, 2006, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Through Project Safe Childhood, federal, state and local law enforcement officials have formed partnerships to apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

This case was investigated by the Meridian Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Glenda R. Haynes.
